I am obsessed with Lady Gaga’s Marry the Night video…
…& not just for its representation of completely relatable & personal (to me) life barriers (that are ultimately transformed into inspiration): psychosis, trauma, psychology, creativity, pointe, dance, art, relationships, failure…but for the message that success develops only out of the determination to NEVER GIVE UP…something all of us can relate to!
To embrace and then re-CREATE traumatic events in one’s life, to re-form the impossible not simply into the possible, but into achievement…is a belief that instructs and inspires my every thought.
It’s nice when art pushes limits & asks us to not simply attend, but to reflect on its application to our lives.
I’m a train wreck in the morning
I’m a bitch in the afternoon
Every now and then without warning
I can be really mean towards you
I’m a puzzle yes indeed
Ever complex in every way
And all the pieces aren’t even in the box
And yet, you see the picture clear as day
I don’t know why you love me
And that’s why I love you
You catch me when I fall
Accept me, flaws and all
And that’s why I love you
And that’s why I love you
And that’s why I love. . . mmmm
I neglect you when I’m working
When I need attention I tend to nag
I’m a host of imperfection
And you see past all that
I don’t know why you love me
And that’s why I love you
You catch me when I fall
Accept me, flaws and all
And that’s why I love you
And that’s why I love you
And that’s why I love. . .you
I don’t know why you love me
And that’s why I love you
You catch me when I fall
Accept me flaws and all
And that’s why I love you
And that’s why I love you
And that’s why I love you
You, you, you
Not only am I super excited to pick up this new Biography/lyric-ography, Decoded, by the musical phenom of our generation…Jay-Z…But, as a psychologist, I am loving that the cover art is an INKBLOT…giving the tease that perhaps this piece will do more than just scratch the surface of this enigmatic talent. xxx c
I recall seeing Tori Amos years ago with my best friend live, at Jone’s Beach…an outdoor amphitheater meant for dynamic artists with melodic voices that carry…and touch your heart, in a way that Tori’s always has touched mine.
She performed all of her songs with the accompaniment of her piano, production was minimal and much of her concert had an improvisational feel…many of her songs were unrecognizable until their familiar hook was revealed.
On this particular night a familiar song brought up all too tender emotions: loss, grief, yearning…frustration. I recall grasping my best friend’s hand, tears streaming down my face…music connecting me to feelings I could not yet articulate.
I am always amazed by the raw and intuitive power of artistic expression…and eternally thankful for the artists brave enough to create and share that gift.
Here is the song…and the lyrics…perhaps you will check out some of Tori Amos’ vast body of work or listen to a pieced that similarly effected you…either way, I hope this post inspires you to appreciate an artist that is GREAT, to YOU!

If you don’t treat me better Baby I’ll just run away Baby I don’t know what drives you To play all these silly games C’mon baby I’m much stronger than you know Sometimes I’m not afraid to let it show
When will you wake up I want you more than the stars and the sun But I can take only so much Cool on your island Is it cool on your island
I gotta brand new dress babe Could it make you wanna try I guess I didn’t want to notice The stars gone from your eyes C’mon baby I’m much stronger than you know Sometimes I’m not afraid to let it show
When will you wake up I want you more than the stars and the sun But I can take only so much Cool on your island Is it cool on your island
We could buy an airplane Build a home in the sand You could tell your secrets I could understand But then by the morning Comes crumblin’ down And as your leavin’ Wait
When will you wake up I want you more than the stars and the sun But I can take only so much Cool on your island Is it cool, baby When will you wake up I want you more than the stars and the sun But I can take only so much Cool on your island You’re so cool on your island Is it cool on your island Is it cool baby
If you don’t treat me better Baby I’ll just run away Cool on your island If you don’t treat me One day you’ll wake up cold Yeah, then you’ll know You’ll know You’ll know You love me. -Tori Amos, Cool On Your Island
So…I am co-hosting an event this weekend at Pranna, nd NYC Club…beautiful decor…soaring ceilings and amazing acoustics…it’s my Saturday regular spot with Blaqlist (www.theblaqlist.com). I am working on the house-music party in the cellar, which I KNOW will, with hard work, be a really special party…of course, with the help of some PHENOMENAL DJ’s like Jay Dabhi & Peter Parker….and on the promotions side…one of the most sensual creatures I have ever had the pleasure of meeting…Miss Toxik Nation…oh and when I say creature…I mean a lovely, amazing, human being…FULL of creativity…someone that I am quite honored to be working with!
THIS WEEKEND…there is a super special performance this SATURDAY the 18th at Pranna by Wynter Gordon, dance musicartist extraordinaire…doing her hit, “DIRTY TALK“:
The lyrics bombard us with all variations of DIRTY TALK…as Wynter tells us she is…NO ANGEL!
Well certainly I can relate…and apparently a few of my friends can as well…we started FB’ing about being Dirty…and I discovered that DIRTY TALK truly involves ALL SENSES to be REALLY DIRTY!
Let’s delve a little DEEPER…shall we?
1 Sight
The decadence of this image is truly…a 10-course meal!
2. Smell
The chocolate…that deep almost primitively musky scent that drives us women CRAZY!
3. Hearing
Drip…Drip…Drip…
4. Taste
To the tongue…velvet…ending with the piquant nip if the strawberry…and THEN…
5. TOUCH…
Perhaps the DIRTIEST of ALL…
From ONE LITTLE DIRTY PICTURE…we seem to have covered all our DIRTY THOUGHTS and, I hope…inspired a little DIRTY TALK…in YOU!
Looking forward to sharing the evening with some of you and…stimulating conversation…perhaps?
